The Founding of Welton
Welton is a small city in Clinton County, Iowa, incorporated in 1871. Like many Iowa communities of its era, Welton grew from the rich agricultural promise of the prairie — settlers drawn westward by the Homestead Act and the expansion of the railroad found fertile ground and a welcoming landscape along the rolling hills of eastern Iowa.
The town was platted and named in the early years of settlement, taking its place among the network of small communities that formed the backbone of Clinton County's rural economy. Early residents built homes, churches, and schools — the foundations of civic life that continue to define Welton today.
Built on the Land
Although agriculture has always been the heartbeat of Welton, our little town is host to several small businesses. Buzzy's Tap, Midwest Machine & Midwest Super Cub, 1st Union Antiques, Country Cafe & Welton Travel Stop & Midwest Store it. Welton Volunteer Fire Department and the Women of Welton add service and support to our thriving little community.
